Awesome tools for a motion designer's workflow

Lateral Thinking

Notion is an amazing text-based software to organize, stay updated and plan your next motion design project. And it’s free for personal use!

Every motion design artist should have a sketchbook handy to brainstorm or sketch ideas before jumping onto the computer :)

This book is useful to learn motion design idea generation. I start by brainstorming with exercises from this book before making styleframes and a storyboard.

One Rule Of Motion Design - It’s OK To Be Yourself

It can be all-too-tempting to compare yourself to other motion designers out there, but comparisons only lead to frustration and anxiety. A key rule you’ll learn as a motion design artist is that it’s ok to be yourself. In fact, you need to be true to yourself and your own creative mindset to achieve uniqueness.

As a motion designer, there will be times when you look at motion graphic examples by other artists and start to feel despondent and insecure. The good news is that it’s completely normal to feel this way! In fact, every motion design artist goes through the same thing, so you’re in good company!
We all have a tendency to listen too much to our egos, but as a graphic and motion designer you need to learn how to put your ego aside for a moment and start to make art without feeling bad about yourself.
Comparing yourself to other people is never a good way to go, in any aspect of your life. Compare your appearance with others and you could be heading down the road of low self-esteem, poor self-confidence and negative body image. That’s bad enough. But start to compare your work with what others produce and you could end up in an artistic roadblock – too insecure to carry on as you were, but too afraid to try something new.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from these motion graphics tutorials, it’s to learn how to create motion design without becoming frustrated or flustered. When you learn motion graphics, you also need to learn psychology for creativity, and forge a strong creative mindset so you don’t become overwhelmed.

Start Now

There’s a common misconception that there’s a secret to coming up with great ideas for artistic projects. However, a good motion graphics artist doesn’t need tricks or miracles. They only need a few simple exercises to begin generating creative thoughts of their own.
