Making Videos Without Ideas Is Like Talking To Yourself

If you don’t know what you’re trying to communicate through your video, how will it ever resonate with an audience? This is why coming up with a concept for your motion design is an essential first step in any project.

When you first start to learn motion graphics, you might be surprised to discover that there are steps to go through before you actually start creating. The first element in my motion graphics tutorials is all about coming up with a concept for motion design.
Motion designers have to create videos that resonate not only with their clients but also their clients’ customers, and this is where things start getting tricky. You can’t just jump right in – you need to think ahead and have a strategy in place.
Any good motion design artist will make sure they know exactly what their client wants to say before they come up with a video to express that message. If you don’t understand that basic idea, you can’t possibly create a video that achieves its desired goal.
Think about it – if you make a video without having a strong concept in place, it’ll be more by luck than good management if you manage to communicate anything effectively. When you don’t understand your client, the only message your video will be sending is your own, and, let’s face it, nobody wants to only be talking to themselves!
In this series of videos, we’ll look at how you can create a concept for your video so that you can actually achieve your motion graphics goals.

As a motion graphics artist, your job is to communicate on behalf of a brand. So, it makes sense that you need to really understand that brand and what it wants to say in order to convey its message correctly.
